Description / FR. MA-189 48 Shillings Dec. 7, 1775 Massachusetts Colonial Note PMG 35
This is arguably the most desirable colonial note and one of the nicest Sword-in-Hand we have handled in the last 20 years! What makes this example so incredibly nice is the dark print of the revolutionary soldier on the reverse. Keep in mind, most Sword-in-Hand notes are “rough” around the edges, exhibit signs of heavy circulation and are nearly 250 years old! This note is the exception and has qualities that make it appear much younger than its actual age. The fact that this note still exists is one thing but in this condition is a small miracle in-and-of itself. And the best part is…this note represents tremendous value. This example is the only example certified by PMG and unlike most other Sword in Hand notes – this example has no negative comments. With only two examples known for this Friedberg number and this example arguably being the finer of the two, one would think that a semi-unique note inspired and engraved by Paul Revere would be in the high five-figure range? Today, this note can be had for a fraction of its true value and has the potential for a very significant increase in price in tomorrow’s market. Do not delay, for I do not expect to keep this note for long. #94 in the “100 Greatest American Currency Notes”
