FR 368 $10 1890 Treasury Note PMG 67 EPQ

1890 Treasury Notes are special for many reasons. Not only are they some of the most beautiful notes to have ever been printed on an intaglio printing press but they are also inherently rare. With a design change within a year’s time, the Treasury Notes of 1890 quickly became a much plainer but more affordable Series of 1891 Treasury Notes. Fortunately for us, we still have a handful of high-grade examples of the 1890’s Ornate Backs to celebrate and revere. Furthermore, a quick review of the population report will reveal that there are only 185 examples for the Friedberg number known. The PMG pop reports that there are 2 examples with this Friedberg number graded 67 with none finer. With such few examples known, the likelihood that another example will meet or surpass PMG’s high standards for a Superb Gem 67 grade are slim to none.
